We are the data controller for the purposes of UK data-protection law.
2. What information we collect
- From website visitors: IP address, browser type, pages visited, time/date (via cookies & Google Analytics or similar).
- From donors/supporters: name, email, postal address, payment details (processed via Stripe/PayPal – we never store full card numbers).
- From newsletter subscribers: name and email address (via Mailchimp or similar).
- From programme participants in Ghana (with explicit consent): name, contact details, date of birth, health data (e.g., mercury blood/hair test results), pregnancy status, photographs (only where separate consent is given).

4. Who we share your data with
- Payment processors (Stripe, PayPal) – PCI-compliant, no full card data stored.
- Mailing platform (e.g., Mailchimp) – standard contractual clauses in place.
- Cloud hosting (UK/EU-based where possible).
- Local health partners & laboratories in Ghana (only programme participants’ data, under strict data-processing agreements and with your explicit consent).
- Regulators (Charity Commission, HMRC for Gift Aid, ICO if required).
5. International transfers
Data of Ghana-based programme participants is transferred to and processed in Ghana. We only do this with your explicit consent and under an adequacy decision framework or appropriate safeguards (data-processing agreement + standard contractual clauses).
6. How long we keep your data
- Donation records: 7 years (HMRC/Gift Aid requirements).
- Health data of participants: maximum 10 years or until the child reaches 25 (whichever is longer), then securely destroyed.
- Marketing subscribers: until you unsubscribe.
- Website analytics: 26 months.
7. Your rights
You have the right to:
- Access your data
- Rectify inaccurate data
- Erase your data (“right to be forgotten” where applicable)
- Restrict or object to processing
- Data portability
- Withdraw consent at any time (especially for health data or marketing)
- Lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner’s Office (ico.org.uk)

We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 via the website. In our Ghana programmes we collect children’s health data only with parental consent and in compliance with local child-protection laws.
